Spring Exam Format

I. Format: Matching (26 questions)
Content: Terms, Characters, Authors from Semester 2
   Value: 26 points

II. Format: SAT/ACT Multiple Choice Questions (10 questions)
Content: Grammar and writing skills we have studied and practiced all year long.
     Value: 2 pts./question

III. Format: Short Answer (3 questions, you choose 2)
      Content: The Odyssey
      Value: 10 points (5 pts/question)

IV. Format: Essay

Question: In a strong, analytical, original five paragraph essay, argue what topic, theme, motif, or idea weaves its way through these three major texts of the semester and how each text addresses it.
      Value: 100 points

V. Format: Textual Analysis
Question: Specific text and prompt to be given in exam. I can tell you that it will be a piece of literature we have not studied this year. You will be asked to analyze a passage from it, specifically in terms of how it relates to The Odyssey.
Value: 5 points for annotations, 50 points for textual analysis, argument, and style.

ESSAY REMINDERS:

1.     This must be a FIVE paragraph ANALYTICAL essay.
a.     You need a strong, clear thesis.
b.    You need strong, arguable topic sentences.
c.     You need lots of specific support from the text.
d.    You need to analyze that text CLOSELY.
e.     You need a thoughtful, powerful conclusion that answers the question “So what?”
2.     I am not looking for a cursory effort here. This essay needs to be as well-developed and well-supported as possible. While I am not expecting the same level of polish as I would on an out-of-class essay, I am looking for a strong argument, arguable topic sentences that support the thesis, and close analysis of your supporting quotations.

GOOD LUCK!!! YOU CAN ROCK THIS!!
