Look at these rockstars who came out today to see Life of Pi! (Crystal didn't make it in the picture, but she was there too :-)). Love them--and all of you!
I am eager to hear what everyone thinks of the movie. I won't sway anyone's opinion here, but I will say that I recommend seeing it. I cried like a baby!
Okay, here's the extra credit details:
1.) It's worth up to 30 points. That's A LOT. For most of you, that's enough to raise your overall class percentage 3-4 points.
2.) You need to write a movie review. Now, know that by "movie review," I don't mean movie summary. I mean, REVIEW it. Yup, analyze it. Review all the decisions director Ang Lee made, review the actors' performances, review the movie's depiction of Martel's novel. Consider the DETAILS. Make a list of what you really liked about the movie and a list of what you didn't like about the movie. Think about the movie
3.) Write a 2-3 page movie review (aka movie analysis) in which you apply the analytical format: begin by introducing your topic and your thesis (your main argument about the movie), move into a discussion of specific details of the movie, and then end with a powerful conclusion that clearly states your interpretation of the movie--and your overall opinion of it.
4.) MLA formatting and standard awesome writing rules (see Writing with Style tab for reminders) apply.
5.) Due by the exam. You can hand it in with the exam, or you can give it to me anytime before then.
6.) Do realize that I very probably may ask to publish these in Pandemonium. :-)
+30 points: Clear and detailed analysis of the movie. Eloquent and error-free writing.
+20-29 points: Analysis is pretty good but could go deeper. Writing style could use one good revision.
+10-19 points: More opinion than analysis. Lacks specific details from the movie. Needs revision.
Questions? You know where to find me!
Have I mentioned lately that you all are THE BEST students I have ever taught at Collegiate? :-)
